● The Philosopher of Structure: Architect and Engineer Jaroslav J. Polívka (1886—1960)

Jaroslav Josef Polívka is a forgotten figure in Czech and global architectural culture of the 20th century. Only in recent years has he been rediscovered as a close collaborator of architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the founder of American modern architecture.

Polívka's talent for pushing the boundaries of the technical possibilities of building structures is manifested in individual outputs in the form of a grid — graphic and symbolic cliché of the genre that forms a technical framework into which graphic elements are embedded. Here and there, the grid is dynamically disrupted by curves and squiggles, which refer to Polívka's ability to design and construct atypical building structures.
